Carissa Ábrego

Sr. Community Outreach Manager

Carissa Abrego joined Rifeline in April 2024 as a Sr. Community Outreach Manager. Carissa has over 15 years of experience in research, teaching, and higher education administration. She has also served on nonprofit executive boards and has worked as an editor and writing consultant for nonprofits and academic researchers. Prior to joining Rifeline, she led a large team supporting academic success for thousands of students at the University of Texas at Austin.

Carissa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and earned an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Chicago, where she researched the social meaning of speech variation and taught rhetoric and writing. She looks forward to contributing her skills and experience in project management, partnership building, data analysis, and audience-focused communication to the world of public involvement. Outside of Rifeline, she can be found reading and writing poetry, going to concerts, watching basketball, and traveling with her daughters.
